Have you 'Gyrator'ed your device?
Jan 05, 2009 - 11:39 PM - by Wormy
If you have have a device which sports 'G-Sensor' functionality (or similar), then you could be in for a treat!

I recently stumbled across the Gyrator2 software which I installed on my HTC Touch Pro (with built in 'G-Sensors').

Gyrator2 works in conjunction with the G-Sensors on the device to enable additional functionality such as:
- Screen rotation (rotate the screen in all four perspectives simply by tilting your device)
- Pull your stylus out to 'Unlock' your device
- Put your stylus in to automatically 'Lock' your device
- Answer a call by tilting the device 'upwards' (in a portrait position)
- Hang up on a call by turning your device face down (in mid air)
- And a swag of other cool options...

One of the great things about Gyrator2 is that it is fully customisable. You can easily add your own set of commands based on different actions and series of screen titles.

You can download a copy of Gyrator2 (from our server) here, or you can visit the Gyrator2 website.

Conduits Releases Pocket Player 4.0
Jan 03, 2009 - 11:02 AM - by dcbehan
Conduits has release version 4.0 of their venerable Pocket Player.

This version seems to have focused largely on the Apple crowd by adding AAC (including streaming via aacPlus, HE-AAC v1, HE-AAC v2), M4A, and Podcast support.

Please note that since this is a 'major' revision, you can not just download and install over v3 - you will need a new reg key. Upgrade pricing is $9.95; new users will pay $19.95.

SlingMedia Releases Updated SlingPlayer Mobile
Dec 28, 2008 - 3:59 PM - by dcbehan
For those of you who like to watch TV on your mobile device and also happen to have a Slingbox, Sling Media has released updated versions of SlingPlayer Mobile for WM Pro & Standard editions. Priced at $29.95, it's no freebie for sure. But if you have a high speed internet connection and simply must catch the latest Battlestar Galactica from where ever you may be, this may do the trick. (BTW: the last episodes of the series start Friday, Januray 16 @ 9 EST in the US on SciFi)

The main reason for the updates is to provide support for a host of new devices and their accompanying screen resolutions.

For WM Pro compatibility check here

For WM Standard compatibility check here

Anyone have a Slingbox/SlingPlayer Mobile setup going? How do you like it? In particular, does it work well enough over 3G to be usable?

Merry Christmas from Technology at Play
Dec 24, 2008 - 10:44 AM - by Wormy
As I make this post, it is 7:38pm on Christmas Eve. It is a competition between my two sons (eleven and five) as to who can "get closest" to the presents (no touching of course) under the Christmas Tree... without my wife or I "knowing"... and Santa is only a matter of hours away!

Warm family times indeed

I would like like to take this opportunity to wish all of our registered users and guests a very Merry Christmas from myself and the team here at Technology at Play.

I hope you all wake up Christmas morning and receive a wonderful surprise with lots of gift, fun, laughter and love.

Take care and Merry Christmas!
